Fall Challenge: Stirring Stories is OPEN

The Stirring Stories community cookbook is now open! This fall, we are asking you to submit a recipe, along with either an image or a brief written piece. Aside from being published in the cookbook, work will also be displayed in a local storefront on Coventry Road. Click the button above to submit your work!

The Rules

  • Open to creators of all ages.
  • Submissions must include a recipe and a piece of original art (either written or visual).
  • All genres of art and writing are accepted, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, comics, photos, drawings, and paintings.
  • All images will be printed no larger than 5×7″; all written pieces must be 250 words or less.
  • Recipes must be one page or less (approximately 500 words).
  • LEI will make final decisions about editing and publishing.
  • Maximum of 2 submissions per person.

Want to write something to go with your recipe, but not sure where to begin? Here’s a few prompts to get started!

  • Describe the first time you made/ate the recipe.
  • Tell us about the person who cooked it/gave it to you.
  • Where did the recipe come from? Where did you learn it?
  • I ate this when… where… with…
  • Tell a 6 word story about your recipe.
  • Tell us about a place connected to the recipe. (“This recipe makes me remember…”)
  • Write a haiku about a person this recipe makes you think of. (ex: Steam fills the kitchen/she is cooking fish for him/leaving the heads on)
  • Write a haiku about the ingredients in the dish. (ex: Salty brisket bite/There is nothing else like it/Once a year is fine)
  • Explain why you want to share your recipe.
